BCThubs at the European Researchers’ Night 2025 in Italy

On September 26th, 2025, BCThubs captured the attention of students, educators, and science enthusiasts at SuperScienceMe – European Researchers’ Night at the University of Calabria, in Italy.

At the Innovation Space booth, visitors engaged in a hands-on experience that brought the sea to the surface. Guided by our partners from 3D Research, BCThubs project partner from Italy, they had the opportunity to literally dive into history, exploring digitally reconstructed underwater cultural heritage sites.

Thanks to dedicated VR stations set up by 3D Research, whose expertise includes AR, VR solutions and 3D technology for the promotion of cultural assets, participants had the chance to see how technology can make submerged heritage not only accessible, but also engaging and relevant to today’s cultural and environmental challenges.

This engaging demonstration offered a glimpse into how Blue Culture Technologies (BCT), including virtual reality, robotics, and geolocation systems , can play a key role in preserving, managing, and promoting Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH).

The enthusiastic response from students and participants at the European Researchers’ Night confirmed the growing interest in technology-driven approaches to cultural heritage, especially when they are interactive, accessible, and tied to real-world sustainability goals.

For BCThubs and its partners, it was an opportunity not just to showcase technology, but to spark curiosity, inspire dialogue, and promote a more inclusive vision of innovation — one that starts from the past to shape a better, more sustainable future. It was an exciting experience that allowed participants to explore Underwater Cultural Heritage sites and see how cutting-edge technologies can help promote our shared maritime heritage.

BCThubs continues to promote innovation in the Blue Economy, with the long-term goal of establishing a European Cluster for Blue Culture Technologies, connecting regions and stakeholders even beyond the life of the project.
